Brief Description
Students look at different media for modern equivalents to the
events of the Holocaust.
Objectives
- Students will identify similarities and differences between
historical events and situations from today.
- Students will consider the impact of those similarities and the
responsibilities of learning from history.

Lesson Plan
Collect information about hate groups and hate crimes from
newspapers, news magazines, news broadcasts, and the Internet.
- Are there similarities between these groups and the Nazis?
- Are the actions of hate groups similar to actions of the Nazis?
- Are the victims of today’s hate crimes similar to victims of
the Nazis?
- Think about how we look at hate groups and how the people of
Germany and Eastern Europe looked at Nazis. How is it the same?
How is it different?
- Are the actions of governments, media, or religious institutions
different than they were in Nazi Germany? How?
Assessment
Present your information and ideas in a written or oral report to
the class. Try to answer any questions they may have.
Discussion Questions
Some people think that if we don’t learn from history than we
will repeat it.
- What do you think this means? How are we repeating history?
- What have we learned from the history of the Holocaust?
